Richard Gottfried Mettler
Richard Gottfried Mettler 96, has made his final and greatest journey home to be with the Lord. Richard was born December 31, 1909 in Lodi, California. Richard went to his eternal home March 29, 2006. Richard was the third of six children born to Henry and Barbara Mettler of Lodi. Growing up Richard worked in the family vineyards and played violin in the family band. He played softball until he was no longer able. The teamshe played on consisted primarily of brothers and cousins. Richard stopped public high school to go to technical school, studying to become an accountant. This he would do throughout his life. No matter where he was, he was keeping the books. For Northern Fruit Packing Plant, Woodbridge Golf and Country Club, SIRS, The local Fire Department, and Zion Reformed Church. A church he helped to build, when the congregation outgrew its facility in downtown Lodi.
In 1936 Richard Married Ariel Augusta Lipelt a long time sweetheart. Richard enjoyed Dancing and Ariel was an excellent dancer. Richard could often be heard to say he married her for her dancing. Together they traveled the world over and enjoyed an active social life. Richard was an avid golfer and often could be found on the local courses.
He is preceded in death by his wife Ariel of 68 years, his son Stephen Richard. His parents and siblings, many cousins, and most of his close friends. All of whom meant the world to him.
Richard is survived by his Granddaughter Stacy Oliver and husband Michael, of Wilton. His Grandson, Scott Mettler and wife Patricia of Fresno, six Great Grandchildren, Ashlie, Alicia, Kaitlyn, and Matthew Oliver, and Jaimison, and Joshua Mettler.
Richard was an amazing individual. A great friend, an incredible story teller, a loyal husband, and a loving Grandfather and Great Grandfather. May he rest in Peace knowing the indelible influence he has had on the lives he has touched.
At Richards request no services will be held at the present time. In lieu of flowers, Contributions may be made to Zion Reformed Church 105 South Ham Lane, Lodi, California 95242.
