Allen R.SCHNABEL of Fort Collins, Colo., was reunited with his loving wife Lillian on Feb. 22, 2010, when he went to be with his Lord and Savior.
He was born Oct. 19, 1923, in Eureka, S.D., to Gottfried and Lydia Schnabel, one of 12 children. He was raised on a farm 10 miles east of Eureka.
On April 30, 1944, he married Lillian Schumacher in Eureka, S.D. and made their home on a farm near Eureka. They were blessed with six children. On their farm they raised grains and had dairy cattle.
In June 1970 they moved to Fort Collins, where they built their new home and resided there for 38 years. Jan. 19, 2008, they moved to the Worthington Independent Living Facility. They were members of Faith Evangelical Free Church, where Allen was an usher for several years.
Allen enjoyed walking at the mall, going to cattle sales, and loved family gatherings and visiting with anyone that crossed his path.
Allen worked construction, building homes with his brother-in-law, Reinhold Bertsch, upon moving to Fort Collins. Due to health reasons he started a position as maintenance supervisor at Key Bank for about 16 years until his retirement in 1993.
For the past 18 months of his life he resided at the North Shore Health Care Facility in Loveland, Colo. He loved all of the wonderful staff that cared for him and he in return was loved by them.
Allen is survived by four sons, Stan (Sonja) Schnabel of Ashley, N.D., Gary (Carol) Schnabel of Milton-Freewater, Ore., Les Schnabel of Wellington, Colo., Myron (Sherry) Schnabel of Fort Collins, Colo.; and two daughters, Marian (Larry) Ouret of Loveland, Colo. and Diana (Rick) Blaher of Huntsville, Ala. Also surviving Allen are 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three brothers and five sisters.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lillian, March 4, 2008; his parents; a daughter-in-law; son-in-law; one sister; and two brothers.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25, at Faith Evangelical Free Church, 3920 S. Shields, Fort Collins, Colo.
Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in Fort Collins, Colo.
Viewing will be Wednesday noon to 7 p.m. at Bohlender Funeral Chapel.
