She died Friday, April 4, 2008, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. LouElla Schnabel, daughter of John and Lydia (Guthmiller) Schnabel, was born Sept. 29, 1926, on the family homestead northeast of Eureka. This is where she grew up and attended country school while helping on the family farm. She was united in marriage to Calvin Dais on Nov. 16, 1947, in the Congregational Church northeast of Eureka. They made their home and farmed north of Eureka, where they were general farmers raising small grains and livestock. They have continued the family tradition of farming the same land for the past 130 years. LouElla loved to garden vegetables and flowers. She enjoyed spring farm work and calving. She was very patient with the calves and always tended to the weak ones and bottle-fed them. She always found time to spend with her grandchildren, as those memories were special to her. She was a member of Church of God Seventh-Day, the Ladies Aide, Church Quartet and the Church Choir. Survivors include her husband; one son, Lloyd (B.J.) Dais; one brother, Harley (Virginia) Schnabel of Wishek, N.D.; two grandchildren: Shane Dais of Eureka and Tracy (Matthew) Schou of Fremont, Neb.; and one great-granddaughter, Jenna Heilman. Her parents; two brothers: Reinhold and Ray; and one sister, Florence Dais, preceded her in death. Casketbearers will be Don Dais, Charles Puhlmann, Joel Sayler, Jerry Dais, Lester Dais and Kenny Stickelmyer. The family prefers memorials be made to Avera Eureka Community Hospital, PO Box 517, Eureka, SD 57437. Condolences may be sent to www.carlsenfh.com. Carlsen Funeral Home of Eureka has been entrusted with arrangements.
