Funeral service for Christian Arthur Schumacher, 104, of Aberdeen will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Zion Lutheran Church. The Rev. Erin Heidelberger will officiate.
Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 pm at the funeral home.
Christian died December 26, 2015 at Avera Eureka Health Care Center.
Christian Arthur Schumacher, son of Christian and Christine (Klooz) Schumacher was born January 28, 1911 south of Long Lake in McPherson County, SD. This is where he grew up while attending country school. He then owned and operated the Long Lake Bar.
Christian was united in marriage to Ruth Smolnisky on the Schumacher family homestead in November 1940. They started farming with family help and were general farmers raising small grains and livestock. They retired from farming in the late 1980’s and in 1990 they moved to Aberdeen. His wife, Ruth, died on July 26, 2010. Christian entered nursing care in December of 2012.
Christian enjoyed gardening and fishing. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.
Grateful for having shared Christian’s life are his son, Warren Schumacher of Aberdeen; brother, Ervin (Gertrude) Schumacher of Watertown and sister, Erma Schumacher of Alexandria, VA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, five brothers, Richard, Reinhold, Albert, Arnold and William and two sisters, Anna Becker and Elnora Heinrich.
Casketbearers will be Matthew Schumacher, Jon Schumacher, Randy Schumacher and Sam Schumacher.
Carlsen Funeral Home and Crematory of Aberdeen has been entrusted with arrangements.
