Larry Lee Larson, 73, of Galva, died at 7:22 a.m. Sunday, April 5, 2009, at Kewanee Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 9, at Rux Funeral Home in Galva. Russell Collister will officiate. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Galva Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Galva Public Library, Galva Park District, Grace United Methodist Church or to a charity of the donor's choice.
He was born on Dec. 22, 1935, in Galva, the son of Clarence and Hilma (Sall) Larson. He married Elsie Schultz on Oct. 8, 1960 in Galva.
She survives, as did three foster children, Stella (Ralph) Marlier of Mt. Grove, Mo., Susan (Dennis) Peisinger of Sparland and Sandra Manning of Missouri; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a special niece, Amber Rebholz; a brother, Lewis (Donna) Larson of Galva; two sisters, Doris Krahn of Chillicothe and Marlo Morrison of Kewanee; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ray Thurwanger.
Larry attended Galva schools. He worked for the Galva Foundry for 30 years as a moulder. He also worked as a butter maker at the Galva Creamery, as a custodian at the Galva Public Library and at Farm King. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan. He was also an avid Chicago Bears fan and Illini football fan. He liked old coins and was a history buff, especially of the World War II era. He enjoyed old rock and roll music and Big Band music. He also liked to watch old Western movies, war movies and classics. He always watched old Andy Griffith programs with Barney Fife, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and The Price Is Right.
