THURWANGER, Richard ``Rick''
Richard ``Rick'' Thurwanger, a 21 year resident of Bedford, TX passed away suddenly on Monday (October 2, 2000). For over 25 years, Rick was a significant contributor to Darden's success. He was a valuable member of the Red Lobster leadership crew for many years, and he recently had taken the role as director of operations for Darden's Newest concept Smokey Bones BBQ Sports Bar located in the midwest. Rick held degrees in both Math and Hotel & Restaurant Management from the University of Central Florida and Florida International University. He was on the Board of Directors of the John C. Ford Foundation and active in the Greater Dallas Restaurant Association. He was a certified trainer for Zenger Miller. He was the 1998 Darden Award winner for the Dallas Division. Rick knew the importance of balancing work and home life, and was a devoted husband his wife Charann; and father to his two sons, Mark and Mitchell. Rick was a Cub Scout leader for seven years, and was an organ donor, which has enhanced and added to the lives of those unkown. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard E. Thurwanger and mother, Phyllis G. Nestler Thurwanger, both of Vero Beach, FL. Other surviving members include sister, Diane and her husband Gary Resch; brother, Paul Thurwanger; niece, Tiffany and her husband Brian Williamson; great nephew, Garrett; nephew, Matthew Resch; niece, Jennifer and her husband Dr. Brad Damiani; and nephews, Paul, Jr. and Steven, all of whom are from Vero Beach, FL. Visitation will be held all day on October 12, with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. at Family Funeral Care in Bedford, TX. The Funeral mass will be held Friday, October 13, 10 a.m., at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Harwood Road, Bedford, TX. Memorials may be made in Rick's memory to the John C. Ford Foundation, 400 North St. Paul, Suite 200, Dallas, TX, Attn: Jackie Verma, Executive Director, or Special Olympics.
