Anyone who has seen and admired the attractive tile work in the entrance to the Scherr Howe Arena may not know it was the work of Ted Aman of Mobridge. During his later years, Ted had turned from his work as a carpenter to becoming skilled at ceramic tile work and many homes in the Mobridge area have his tile work.
In failing health, Ted became a resident of the Golden LivingCenter in Mobridge, where he died Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at the age of 76.
Theadore "Ted" Alfred Aman was born Feb. 16, 1933, to Alfred and Kathryn (Ackerman) Aman on a farm east of Mound City. He grew up and attended school in Herreid, where he also began work at an auto body shop at an early age.
In April of 1953, Ted entered the U.S. Army and served 18 months in Korea until his honorable discharge in February of 1955. He returned to Mobridge and on Oct. 28, 1955, he married Verlene Berreth in Mobridge.
Ted enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing pool, bowling and was a collector. He was a member of the United Congregational Church, American Legion and the Moose Lodge.
He leaves his wife Verlene of Mobridge; three children, Lowell (Debra) Aman of Watertown, Owen Aman of Big Horn, Wyo., and Nova (Myron) Iszler of River Falls, Wis.; eight grandchildren, Derek, Pierce, Brandy and Sean Aman, Chris and Lindsay Aman, and Morgan and Samantha Iszler; and one sister, Irene Mattis of Bismarck, N.D.
His parents and one great granddaughter, Ella Mackenzie, preceded him in death.
