MENNO - Elmer Neuharth, age 83, of Menno, SD, passed away Friday, December 07, 2007, at the Menno-Olivet Care Center, Menno, SD.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 10, 2007 at Zion Reformed Church, Menno, with Rev. Scott Henry officiating. Burial will be in the Menno Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Rames-Bender American Legion Post #152.
Visitations will be 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday, December 9, 2007 at the Aisenbrey-Kostel Funeral Home, Menno, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
Pallbearers will be Sherry Peterson, Kerry Brigance, Brandon Brigance, Michael Neuharth, Michelle Neuharth, and Shane Peterson.
Elmer E. Neuharth was born to Philip and Katharina (Mehlhaf) Neuharth at Menno, SD. He attended rural school and was confirmed by Rev. Bodenman. His confirmation verse was Psalm 143 verse 10. He had basic training at Camp Fanin, Texas. He married Alice Knittel on April 30, 1948 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Freeman, SD, celebrating 59 years together. They had two children, Joyce and Earl. Elmer enjoyed farming and after they retired he continued to help his son. He enjoyed the fellowship of his family and reading. Elmer served his church, the Zion Reformed Church, as a Deacon, an Elder and was also was a lifetime member.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Alice Neuharth of Menno, SD; daughter, Joyce (Richard) Outka of Lubbock, TX; son, Earl (Teresa) Neuharth of Menno, SD; Grandchildren: Sherry (Bill) Peterson, Kerry (Brandon) Brigance, Michael and Michelle Neuharth; three Great Grandsons: Seth and Shane Peterson and Brady Brignace; four sisters: Verlinda Huber of Albany, OR, Erna (Laverne) Decker of Hartford, SD, Viona (Luverne) Buehner of Canistota, SD, and Arlene Walz of Menno, SD; two sisters-in-law, Betty Neuharth and Phyllis Knittel; one brother, Philip (Virginia) Neuharth of Menno, SD; brothers-in-law, Lloyd (Jean) Stevenson, and Victor Schneider, Alton Neiman, Gideon Schultz, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Leon, Ray, and Marvin; five sisters: Beatha Stevenson, Alma Neiman, Ida Schneider, Norma Neuharth, and Elda Schultz.
