Alma Nieman
Alma E. Nieman, age 88, of Yankton passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2007 at the Avera Yankton Care Center in Yankton, SD.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. October 10, 2007 at the Peace Presbyterian Church in Yankton with Rev. Ken Woodhams officiating. Burial will be in the Rosehill Cemetery in Scotland at approximately 1:00 p.m.
Visitations will be from 1-9 p.m. Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at the Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton with the family present from 6-8 p.m. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren: Carol Richelieu, Sharon Richelieu, John Richelieu, Alan Richelieu, Nathan Nieman and Joshua Nieman.
Alma was born on January 16, 1919 at Menno, SD to Philip and Katherine (Mehlhaf) Neuharth. She married Alton Nieman at Menno, SD on November 18, 1945. They farmed in the Olivet area until 1957. They moved to the Scotland area until 1968 when they quit farming and moved to Yankton. Alma worked for Cimpl Packing Company in the Package Department for 17 years when she retired. In March of 2007, she entered the Avera Yankton Care Center. She and her husband enjoyed playing pinochle with many other couples, gardening, and crafts. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren playing UNO.
She is survived by her husband, Alton Nieman of Yankton, SD; her daughter, Karen (Don) Richelieu of Irene, SD; her son, Roger (Monica) Nieman of Omaha, NE; grandchildren: Carol Richelieu of Sioux Falls, SD, Sharon Richelieu of Sioux Falls, SD, John Richelieu of Irene, SD, Alan Richelieu of Irene, SD, Nathan Nieman of Omaha, NE, and Joshua Nieman of Omaha, NE; brothers, Elmer (Alice) Neuharth of Menno, SD and Philip (Virginia) Neuharth of Menno, SD; sisters: Verlinda Huber of Corvallis, OR, Erna (LaVern) Decker of Hartford, SD, Viona (Luverne) Buehner of Canistota, SD, Arlene Walz of Menno, SD; brothers-in-law, Lloyd (Jean) Stevenson of Omaha, NE, Victor Schneider of Huron, SD, Gideon Schultz of Yankton, SD, Chester Nieman of Long Beach, CA; sister-in-law, Betty Neuharth of Menno, SD, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by three brothers: Leon Neuharth, Ray Neuharth, and Marvin Neuharth; four sisters: Beatha Stevenson, Ida Schneider, Elda Schultz, Norma Neuharth; brothers-in-law: Harvey Huber, Walter Walz, Art Engel, and Marvin Nieman; sisters-in-law: Eleanor Neuharth, Gertie Neuharth, Amelia Engel, and Eileen Binder, and one nephew, Donald Engel.
