Donald Aloysius Steimel
Died January 19, 1999
BINGHAM TOWNSHIP - Donald Aloysius Steimel, 74, of Bingham Township, died Tuesday at his home.
He was born in Suttons Bay on June 14, 1924, to Joseph and Louise (Hanenberg) Steimel. On Nov. 3, 1945, in Gills Pier, Mich., he married Charlene Marie Houdek.
Donald was a farmer, and he loved ice fishing. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7781 in Lake Leelanau. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Charlene; four children, Connie (Danny) Maxon of Kingsley and Loraine (Gerald) McNeil, Alfred (Debbie) Steimel and Dale (Maryann) Steimel - all of Suttons Bay; one brother; Louie Steimel and two sisters, Evelyn Hahnenberg and Edith Herzina - all of Detroit; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sons, Kenneth and Gary.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Michael's Catholic Church. The Rev. Wayne Dziekan will serve as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery. Friends may call at St. Michael's Parish Hall from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass. A luncheon will follow the services in the Parish Hall.
Memorials may be directed to Mass intentions and the Grand Traverse Area Hospice.
Arrangements are being handled by the Martinson Funeral Home in Suttons Bay.
