Laura Genevieve Zeits
BARAGA ? Laura Genevieve Zeits, 91, of Baraga, passed away on Sunday, November 4, 2007, at Baraga County Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit where she had been a resident for the past three years.
Mrs. Zeits was born in Lake Leelanau, Mich. on July 21, 1916, the daughter of Simon and Isabelle (Plamondon) Hahnenberg. She graduated from St. Mary?s Catholic School in Lake Leelanau and attended Aquinas College in Grand Rapids.
She married Frank Zeits on December 2, 1939.
She was employed at the Leland Courthouse in the early years and after relocating to the Detroit area, also worked as an inspector at the bomber plant in Ypsilanti, as a nurse aide, and in the finance department at Wayne County General Hospital. Laura and her family moved to Baraga in 1967. She was employed as a bookkeeping clerk for the Michigan department of Natural Resources in Baraga until her retirement in 1979 and spent her remaining years at home lovingly caring for her family. Laura?s wonderful ?green thumb? and her musical piano playing talents were always enjoyed by her family, friends, residents and staff at BCMH SNU.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Frank; children, Joyce (Larry) Doele of Saline, Mich., Alan of Tucson, Ariz., Linda (Daniel) Gilevich of Wayne, Faye (Ray) Lozier of Baraga, and Frank (Nikki) of Champion; siblings Cecelia Bussey of Dearborn, Willard Hahnenberg of Paw Paw, Mich., and Rose Marie Schramski of Suttons Bay, Mich.; 10 grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Simon and Isabelle Hahnenberg; brothers, Frederick, Loren, and Edward; and sister, Rita Egeler.
A memorial mass will be held on Monday, November 12, at 11 a.m. at St. Ann?s Catholic Church in Baraga. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Fr. George Maki will officiate.
The family requests that memorials may be made to the Activities Fund at Baraga County Memorial Hospital?s Skilled Nursing Unit.
