Carl Ernest Brinnel
Carl Ernest Brinnel, 74, of Leland and formerly of Wilmington, passed away unexpectedly Monday, May 15th, 2006 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Beloved father and husband. Son of Carl Peter Brinnel and Anna Brinnel (deceased) He leaves his wife Jean Parris Brinnel; Son, David Brinnel (and wife Andrea) Daughter Susan D'Agostino (and husband Bernard); grandchildren Paul & Hailey Brinnel, Austin & Julia D'Agostino, all of Longmeadow, MA. Other survivors include his step-children; Stephen Charles Avery and Teresa Tysinger, both of KY, Patricia Avery of Wilmington, Jamie Collier and husband Craig of TN, Deborah Avery of MO, 13 step-grandchildren and 1 step-great-granddaughter.
Admired for his expertise in business and sales training, his classic sense of humor, love of music (as a listener and trombonist) and his great love for the U.S.A. If you ever had the pleasure of standing near him while the national anthem was being played, you may remember him as the man with tears in his eyes.
Known locally for his business columns in the Leland Reporter, Prime Time and the Morning Star, and his radio commentaries on WHQR. Author of "Minding Everybody's Business" (2002). Former president of the Wilmington Tiny Business Network, Rotary Club, founder of T.I.P.S. (Training in Professional Services) and American Maid.
Carl grew up in Queens, New York, lived in Virginia and Massachusetts before moving to Wilmington, NC. He was a Naval Veteran of the Korean War, and longtime Executive Director of Junior Achievement of Western Massachusetts.
His passing moments were brief. Our love for him will last forever.
A funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the Oleander Chapel of Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Home with Rev Claude Gamble officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Boston Shriners Children's Hospital,
