Message: From the Huntington Herald Press Online, August 06, 1999 Fred E. Karst, 84, 1902 Chestnut Ave., and also of Naples, Fla., died at 12:20 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 5, 1999) at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. He was a mail carrier retiring from the U.S. Postal Service Jan. 11, 1980 after working 42 years. He was a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Huntington, and St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Naples, Fla. He was a veteran of World War II. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus, Disabled American Veterans of Indiana, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and National Association of Letter Carriers. Mr. Karst was born July 15, 1915 in Huntington to George A. and Edith T. Scher Karst. On Sept. 29, 1951, he married Margaret M. Larkin, who died Dec. 5, 1967. On May 16, 1970 in Louisville, Ky., he married Frieda M. Owens, who survives in Huntington. Survivors also include three sons, James P. Karst and Terrence F. Karst, both of Huntington, and Patrick A. Karst of le; two daughters, Kathleen A. Karst of Huntington and Diane M. Karst of Fort Wayne; a brother, Delbert P. Karst of Ft. Myers, Fla.; three sisters, Mrs. Paul (Marjorie) Herrberg and Mrs. Herman (Lucille) Leist, both of Huntington, and Mrs. William (Rosalia) Dlusak of Wabash; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jean Marie Karst; a son, Michael J. Karst; two brothers, Richard T. Karst and George K. Karst; and a sister, Kathlyn E. Karst. Calling is from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington, where Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday. A funeral Mass is scheduled at 10 a.m. Monday at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington. Hart Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Preferred memorials are to National Kidney Foundation or Huntington Catholic Schools.
