RUDOLPH OPP
Aberdeen --- The funeral for Rudolph Opp, 85, of Aberdeen and formerly of Leola, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Reformed Church, Ninth Avenue and South Dakota Street The Rev. Herman Van Stedum will officiate.
Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Green Mound Cemetery in Leola with Miller-Huebl Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.
He died Thursday, June 14, 2001, at Nano Nagle Village in Aberdeen.
Rudolph Opp was born March 20, 1916, to John and Elizabeth (Neuharth) Opp in Eureka. This is where he grew up and was educated.
He married Thelma Freeman on April 24, 1939, in Britton. They farmed in the Eureka area until 1943, when they moved to the Leola area. He suffered a heart attack in April 1966 and sold the farm in 1968 and moved into Leola. In 1995, they moved to Aberdeen. She died Feb. 16, 1997. He continued to make Aberdeen his home until the time of his death.
He was a member of First Reformed Church. He served as treasurer and served for 48 years as a deacon and elder at the Leola Reformed Church. He reported the daily weather in Leola to the television station KSFY and U.S. Commerce Department for 23 years. He served as treasurer of the youth camp for North Plains Classis for 32 years, secretary and treasurer for Kenwood Manor in Leola for 17 years and secretary and treasurer of the Leola Hospital Board. He also served on Leola Equity, Spring Township School Board, Better Leola Club and Leola Country Club. He was also the caretaker and treasurer for Green Mound Cemetery.
He loved fishing and had a cabin for many years at Little Leola at the Missouri River. He also enjoyed sports, and especially enjoyed watching baseball and football.
Survivors include one son, Robert (Renee) Opp of Arvada, Colo.; three daughters, Phyllis Wright of Beaverton, Ore., Patricia Ehresmann of Hillsboro, Ore., and Marjorie (Mike) Morgan of Fort Collins, Colo.; two brothers Calvin Opp and Edmund Opp, both of Eureka; one sister, Alma Donahue of Richland, Wash.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; and one stepgreat-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one daughter, five sisters and four brothers.
Casketbearers will be Brian Wright, Christopher Opp, Lewis Opp, Daniel Opp, John Streifel, Roy Opp and Tyler Wright.
