CALVIN J. OPP Calvin Opp and Ella Fischer were married September 22, 1940 and moved to their own farm a short time after their marriage. Calvin was one of seven sons born to John D. and Elizabeth (Neuharth) Opp of rural Eureka, November 8, 1914. John D. was born in Gluckstal, Russia, February 3, 1877, arrived in Eureka in 1884 and homesteaded northeast of Eureka. He died November 11, 1953. Elizabeth Neuharth was born in Hutchinson County, South Dakota February 10, 1881 and died August 16, 1967. The children born to the Opps include: John, Elizabeth Ulrich, Bertha Job, Otto, Helen (Donahue) Young, Rueben, Rudolph, Pauline, Allan, Edmund, Alma Donahue, and Calvin. Ella was one of nine children born to Christ and Emma (Kusler) Fischer of Greenway August 16, 1918. (See Benny Nies history). Ella died June 24, 1983 after an extended illness. Three daughters were born to Calvin and Ella. Mary, born January 3, 1943 lives in Burnsville, Minnesota. Jean was born May 10, 1945, is married to Arlo Bertsch and lives in Bloomington, Minnesota. Kathleen, born August 9, 1952 is married to John Streifel and they live in Ashley, North Dakota. Calvin continues to operate the farm northeast of Eureka and is a member of the Reformed Church. Past activities include serving on the rural school board and church board.
