Edna Opp, daughter of Christian D. and Christina (Neuhardt) Opp was born Feb. 14, 1911, in McPherson County, S.D. She was very proud of her German heritage. She was a faithful member of the Reformed Church.
She was united in marriage to Gustave Schlepp on May 21, 1933, at a rural Eureka Reformed Church. They made their home on a farm near Venturia, N.D. In 1963, they moved to Ashley. Her husband died Feb. 12, 1979. From 1980 to 1988, Edna lived in Yakima, Wash. In 1988, she moved back to Ashley.
She loved helping at Eva's shop with her crafts. Edna was known for loving family and enjoying family gatherings. She always would keep the party going with her precise knowledge of family history. She enjoyed genealogy and knew each person's birth date and shared stories of the "good ole days" with her brothers and sisters. Her family loved her cooking, especially the ginger bread men. Her specialty was her pickled watermelon. She was always willing to play games with the children. She leaves behind very dear lady friends who visited her home weekly. Her daily Bible reading and devotions built her faith to endure some of her burdens and it helped her to have much joy in her journey through 94 years.
Survivors include two sons, Myron (Eva) Schlepp of Ashley and Royal (Kitty) Schlepp of Yakima, Wash.; one daughter, Velma (Bob) Fries of Yakima, Wash.; two brothers, Edwin Opp of Moses Lake, Wash., and Ted (Ida) Opp of Eureka; one sister, Esther Sayler of Portland, Ore.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Her parents, husband, two daughters, two sisters, one brother and one granddaughter preceded her in death.
Carlsen Funeral Home of Ashley have been entrusted with the arrangements.
