Aberdeen - The funeral for Thelma Opp, 84, of 1701 Third Ave. S.E., will be at 11 a.m. today at First Reformed Church, Ninth Avenue and South Dakota Street. The Rev. Sam Parks will officiate.
Burial will be in Green Mound Cemetery, Leola, under direction of Miller-Huebl Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service today at the church.
She died Sunday, Feb. 16, 1997, at Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen.
Thelma Freeman was born May 16, 1912, to J.H. and Thura (Hanson) Freeman at Lake City. She attended grade school in Lake City, and graduated from high school in 1931 in Watertown. She then attended Northern Normal and Industrial School in Aberdeen. After college, she taught country school in Marshall and McPherson counties.
She married Rudolph Opp on April 24, 1939, at Britton. She taught school for one year after she was married. They farmed in the Eureka area until 1943 when they moved into Leola. She served as a teachers' aid. In 1995, they moved to Aberdeen.
She loved to garden, sew and make quilts.
Among other organizations, she was a member of First Reformed Church, S & L Extension Club, the Library Board and the hospital auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband of Aberdeen; one son, Robert (Renee) Opp of Arvada, Colo.: three daughters, Phyllis Wright of Beaverton, Ore., Patricia Ehresmann of Hillsboro, Ore., and Marjorie (Mike) Morgan of Fort Collins, Colo.; three brothers, Darwin Freeman of Tacoma, Wash., James Freeman of Beatty, Nev., and Orrin Freeman of Mellette; two sisters Irene Kilbourne and Julia Opitz, both of Britton; nine grandchildren; on stepgrandchild; two great-grandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, one brother and one sister.
Casketbearers will be Brian Wright, David Wright, Christopher Opp, Lewis Opp, Daniel Opp and John Streifel.
