WhiteDonald L. White, 85, Topeka, died Oct. 17, 2005, at a local care facility. He was born April 13, 1920, in Melvern, the son of Ernest W. and Grace Lumsden White. He attended Plymouth Grade School near Melvern. Mr. White served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After his discharge, he farmed and worked various jobs around the Topeka area. He retired from the State of Kansas Highway Department after 17 years of service. He married Hilda Fashion. They later divorced. He married Ruth Yockey on April 11, 1953, in Topeka. She preceded him in death in September 1986. He also was preceded in death by a son, John White. Survivors include Donald L. White Jr., Topeka, Mrs. Lucille Speed, Bettendorf, Iowa, Mary Reed, Prairie Village, Richard Greeve, Denison, Bill Greeve and Dale Greeve, both of Topeka, Louise Schmitendorf, Lyndon, 24 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and numerous great-great-grandchildren. Mr. White will lie in state after 9 a.m. Oct. 20, at Newcomer Family Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Westlawn Memorial Gardens.
