JACOB AND LEAH BURRER Jacob Burrer was born April 28, 1894 on a farm 18 miles northeast of Eureka to Christian and Elizabeth (Albrecht) Burrer. He grew up with nine brothers and sisters, Christ, Henry, John, Fred, Christine (Mrs. Henry) Wolff of Lemmon, Elizabeth (Mrs. Jacob) Sprenger, Eureka, Magdalena (Mrs. John) Pietz, Leola, Emma (Mrs. Gottlieb) Adam, Leola, and Katie (Mrs. Jacob) Doerr, Eureka. Emma is still living. Jacob attended rural school and was a member of the armed forces fighting overseas in World War I. He was wounded in action and honorably discharged. He married Leah Preszler on June 27, 1919 at Eureka. Leah was born April 8, 1901 at Eureka to Fred and Katherine (Wohlgemuth) Preszler. Jacob and Leah established a farm home one-half mile west of the Christian Burrer family homestead. Six children were born to this union. After a lengthy illness, Jacob died September 16, 1939. Leah continued farming with the help of her children. She retired in September, 1952 and moved the farm house to Eureka. She was an active member in the hospital auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary, and was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ where she was active in Ladies Aid. Leah died July 4, 1974. The children of Jacob and Leah are Harry, Ipswich (deceased); Elmer, Mitchell, South Dakota married to Irene Aman; Mable (Mrs. Bernard) Jacob, Aberdeen; Virginia (Mrs. Elmer) Rohrbach and Velma (Mrs. Raymond) Doerr, both of Lodi, and Dellver, Eureka, married to Eileen Hoff. Leah had one half-sister, Mary Mettler, Eureka, deceased, one half-brother, Jake Preszler, Lemmon, deceased, and three brothers, Albert, Eureka, deceased, and Edwin and Julius Preszler of Aberdeen.
