Hayes, 77, of Waynesburg, Ohio, formerly of New Alexandria, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004, in the Community Care Center, Alliance, Ohio. He was born on Oct. 3, 1926, in Mingo Junction, Ohio, a son of the late Foster and Rose Kahrig Hayes. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Beulah Mae Morris Hayes, on July 29, 1991; and five brothers, Victor L., Howard, Hollis, Virgil and Kenneth Hayes. Eugene was a retired yardmaster for Conrail Railroad. He served his country in the Navy during W.W.II, and was a member of the New Alexandria United Methodist Church. Surviving are his daughter, Phyllis J. Custer of Alliance, Ohio; a son, Howard E. Hayes and his wife Vickie of McDonough, Ga.; and two grandsons, Michael and Robert Hayes. Friends received from 5-9 on Friday at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 712 Third St., Brilliant, where services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Sam Retzer officiating.
