Eureka, SD-Funeral service for Katheryn Christina Mettler, 86, of Eureka will be 10:00 am, Monday, September 3, 2012 at Zion Lutheran Church in Eureka. The Rev. Ryan Gage will officiate.
Burial in Eureka City Cemetery.
There will be a prayer service Sunday at 3:00 pm with visitation from noon to 3:00 pm at the funeral home.
Katheryn died August 29, 2012 at St. Alexius Medical Center.
Katheryn Heiser, daughter of John and Margaretha (Weller) Heiser was born July 26, 1926 on her parents homestead south of Artas in Campbell County, SD. She attended country school and helped on the farm.
She was united in marriage to Edmund Mettler on February 2, 1947 in Hoffnungstahl Church seven miles west of Eureka. They made their home on the Mettler family homestead eight miles west of Long Lake, SD where they were general farmers raising small grains and all kinds of livestock. Katheryn was well known as the chicken and egg lady.
Katheryn loved to work with her chickens. She was a wonderful cook and tended to a large garden and canned. She loved the outdoors and driving her 4 wheeler. In the winters she did embroidery and cross stitched. Katheryn was a loving mother, grandmother and mother-in-law.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.
Katheryn is survived by two sons, Myron (Libby) Mettler and Ronald Mettler, both of Eureka, one brother, Walter (Elsie) Heiser of Minnesota, five sisters, Ella Bader of Minnesota, Irene Knapp, Elsie (Merle) Mettler, Mathilda Schaffer and Martha Wiedmeier, all of South Dakota, six grandchildren, Scott (Pam) Mettler, Jeanne (Angie) Scheele, Sheri Mettler, Sara (Kevin) Russell, Dillon Mettler and Cody Mettler and three great-grandchildren.
Her parents, husband (1-9-98), one brother and five sisters preceded her in death.
The casketbearers will be Darrell Bader, Lester Schaffer, Allen Schaffer, Dillon Mettler, Mike Mettler and Mike Shank.
The organist will be Lana Hilgemann.
Carlsen Funeral Home of Eureka has been entrusted with arrangements.
