She attended the first public school that was established in Woodbury county at Smithland.On August 9, 1868, she was untied in marriage with Edward Yockey, a Civil War veteran. They made their home in Smithland where she resided at the time of her death. Seven children were born to them, two preceding her in death, a son, Thomas, and a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth DeFresna. Mr. Yockey died February 20, 1919.Mrs. Yockey was a charter member of Evergreen chapter No. 251, Order of the Eastern Star and of the local Cemetery Society. She was well known and highly esteemed by all who knew her. She not only thought of the everyday affairs of life but also of the future. She selected John 14:1-5 as the Scripture passage to be read at her memorial service.Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Arletta Gilbert, Los Angeles, Mrs. Lura Parlier, Edinburg, Texas, and Mrs. Edna Rahn of Anthon; two sons, Clarence, Wendell, Minn., and Fred of Smithland; a brother, Fred Bower of Holstein; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in the Methodist church, the Rev. A. J. Barkley, pastor, officiating. Misses Ellen Jensen and Jon Steinhoff, accompanied by Miss Gertrude Bale at the piano, sang the hymns, which had been selected by the deceased. Pallbearers were Chas. A. Smith, W. M. McDonald, Donald Bennett, Russell Hall, A. G. Stratton and Ralph C. Smith. Interment was in the Smithland cemetery under the direction of the Willman Funeral Home of Rodney.Lynne Moffitt Lynne Moffitt
