  [S927] Obituary. Eugene's Obituaries Eugene W. Scher, 87, of Huntington, IN, passed away on Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at 6:15 p.m., at Heritage of Huntington, IN. Mr. Scher was born on April 14, 1929, in Huntington, IN, to Henry J. and Lena (Gelzleichter) Scher. His parents preceded him in death. He married Elizabeth Krumanaker on May 28, 1960, at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Huntington, IN. She preceded him in death on October 29, 2009. Mr. Scher was a 1947 graduate of Huntington Catholic High School. He retired in 1993 from Our Sunday Visitor as a Printing Pressman. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War from 1950-1954. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Huntington, IN, 3rd degree member of Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post #160, Roanoke, IN, and Moose Lodge, #837, Huntington, IN. He was Assistant Coach for the Huntington Catholic Komets and also helped coach Kim League basketball. Mr. Scher is survived by three sons, Alan Scher, Brad (Patricia) Scher, and Christopher (Mia) Scher, all of Huntington, IN; one brother, Richard (Margaret) Scher, Huntington, IN; and two grandchildren, Hannah Scher and Gracie Scher. Along with his wife he was preceded in death by 5 brothers, George Scher, Earl Scher, Delbert Scher, Robert Scher, James Scher; and 5 sisters, Josephine Scher, SSND, Dorothy Stoltz, Marjorie Meyer, Kathleen Hesting, and Phyllis ?Sue? Pfister. Calling hours will be held on Friday, June 10, 2016, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Additional calling hours will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2016, prior to Mass from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Huntington, IN. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 903 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN, with Fr. Stephen Colchin presiding.
