Viola Neuharth
died 11/28/08Viola Vera Neuharth was born Feb. 27, 1912, near Freeman, S.D., to Fred and Albina (Wahl) Aman. She was baptized by Rev. Treick. In 1926 she was confirmed at the Scotland Reformed Church.Viola attended rural school and graduated from Freeman High School in 1930. She earned her two year diploma from Freeman Junior College and taught rural schools in the Freeman, Menno, S.D., and Leola, S.D., areas.

In 1938 Viola was united in marriage with August Neuharth at Leola. For several years they farmed near Warner, S.D., and Aberdeen, S.D., where their daughters were born. In 1944 they moved to a farm west of Freeman where they labored and loved farm life until August died in 2001.Viola then moved into Freeman and recently into Menno Olivet Care Center.In addition to her farm work, Viola was a member of home extension for over 30 years. She was known for her hospitality shown to friends and many overnight guests. She also taught piano to area children. For years she was a seamstress for family and friends. She also enjoyed oil painting and quilting. Viola was a member of the Reformed Church all her life.Viola passed away Friday, Nov. 28, 2008.Viola is survived by daughters: Evelyn (Roger) Blum, Aberdeen, and Harriet Haggett, Wickenburg, Ariz.; grandchildren: Shannon (Melissa) Haggett, Jason (Kelly) Haggett, John Blum and Patricia Blum; three great-grandchildren; brother Edwin (Leatrice), Freeman; sisters-in-law Eleanor Aman, Freeman, and Della Schaffener, Leola; and brother-in-law Sam Jakober, Eureka, S.D.She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two sisters: Eleanor Neuharth and Alice Schrag; one brother Allenton Aman; and son-in-law Roy HaggettThe funeral was held Wednesday, Dec. 3 at 10:30 a.m. at Salem Reformed Church in Menno with Rev. Michael Hecht officiating and Harriet Schaeffer as organist. Pallbearers were Roger Aman, John Blum, Ron Guthmiller, Jason Haggett, Shannon Haggett and Glenn Hartman. Honorary pallbearers were her former students: Jake Gross Jr., Calvin Hagge, Amos Kleinsasser and Elmer Mueller.
