CHRIST AND ELIZABETH FIECHTNER
Christ Fiechtner was born May 20, 1891 to Jacob and Sophia Kienzle Fiechtner in
Hoffnungstal, South Russia. He came to America with his parents as a young boy
and settled on a farm north of Lehr, North Dakota. Jacob Fiechtner passed away
in 1914. In 1915 Sophia married Fred Reiner from Hosmer, South Dakota. Christ
had two brothers and two sisters all living in North Dakota.
Christian J. Fiechtner and Elizabeth (Bitz) Fiechtner
Christ married Elizabeth Bitz in March 1916. Elizabeth was born June 7, 1895 to
Daniel and Fredericka Walz Bitz. Daniel Bitz passed away in 1943 and Mrs. Bitz
in 1958.
Christ and Elizabeth farmed in North Dakota for a short time then moving to the
Bitz farm five miles south of Eureka. In 1920 they built a home and moved into
Eureka where Christ worked for Eureka Equity Exchange. In 1925 he and his
brother, Jacob, bought the elevator from Mr. Bohle. The elevator burned in
1938. Christ then did various kinds of work before purchasing a service station
from Erwin Weisz which Christ sold to Mike Pfeifle in 1943. Christ also served
as a volunteer fireman and city alderman. Shortly after he sold his business he
passed away, February 1944, at the age of 53 years. Elizabeth Fiechtner
continued to live in Eureka until 1973 when she became a resident of the
Aberdeen Nursing Center after leaving the Lutheran Home in Eureka. She passed
away December 29, 1978. The Fiechtner's are buried at the Eureka Cemetery.
Christ and Elizabeth had five living children while some died in infancy. The
children are Emelia, Mrs. Henry Neuharth, Aberdeen, South Dakota; Emanuel,
Casper, Wyoming; Esther, Mrs. Theo. Neuharth, died December 19, 1969; Edmund,
Cheyenne, Wyoming; Ellwood, Casper, Wyoming, married to Robbie Tyler.
