Forbes, ND-Funeral service for Norma Meyer, 88, of Forbes, ND will be 1:00 pm, Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Forbes. The Rev. Alan D. Eppen will officiate.
Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen.
Visitation will be Friday from 4-6 pm at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Norma died Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at Avera Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen.
Norma Neuharth, daughter of George J. and Katie (Roth) Neuharth was born February 16, 1923 in McPherson County, SD. She began her education in a country school, graduating from Eureka High School with the class of 1941. She then attended Northern College in Aberdeen for three summer sessions. She taught at rural schools from 1941 to 1947.
She was united in marriage to Raymond E. Stoebner on June 13, 1946. They farmed in the Eureka area for two years; they then bought a farm west of Forbes in 1948. In 1953 they bought a home in Forbes because it was too far to travel to school and the roads were in poor condition. They owned and operated a grocery store in Forbes until 1973 when they sold the inventory and quit their business due to Ray?s health. Ray and Norma had three children, Don, John and Mary Kay. Ray died at the University of Minnesota Hospital on February 11, 1975. In the fall of 1975, Norma attended college at Valley City State University, graduating in 1978 with a Bachelor degree in all college studies.
She was then united in marriage to Ernest F. Meyer on March 20, 1978 in Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Forbes. Norma did some substitute teaching in Forbes in the grade school and high school until the school closed. They lived on the farm until 1993 when they moved into a new house in Forbes. Ernest died April 10, 2001. She sold her home in 2004 and moved into an apartment.
Norma enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, crocheting, reading, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, fishing and playing cards.
Survivors include two sons, Don Stoebner of Leola, SD and John (Neva) Stoebner of Plymouth, MN, two brothers, Cal (Sharon) Neuharth of Eureka and Dennis (Dottie) Neuharth of Summerfield, FL, one sister, Gladys (Harvey) Schmidt of Roseville, CA, one sister-in-law, Doris Baer of Roscoe, SD, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Her parents, husbands, one daughter, Mary Kay and two brothers, George and Harold Neuharth preceded her in death.
Honorary Casketbearer will be Jodie Schmitz.
Casketbearers will be Norma?s grandsons, Ben Stoebner, Andrew Stoebner, Nicholas Stoebner, Zach Stoebner and Joe Stoebner.
The organist will be Janell Hauck and the Church Choir will sing.
Carlsen Funeral Home of Ellendale have been entrusted with arrangements.
