JACOB AND EVA DAMMEL
Jacob and Eva Dammel
Jacob Dammel was born March 15, 1887 in Russia to John and Christina Dammel. He
had two brothers, Daniel and Israel, and one sister, Louisa Schumacher.
On January 13, 1913, Jacob married Eva Kirschenmann, daughter of Christian and
Philipina (Walz) Kirschenmann. Eva was born July 8, 1892 in Hosmer, South
Dakota. She had four brothers, John, Fred, Gottlieb and Christian, and four
sisters, Katherine Eisenbeisz, Magdalena Kurle, Christina Dammel and Martha
Wiedrich.
Eva's father, Christian, was born August 15, 1851 in South Russia and died June
27, 1928. Philipina was born May 3, 1852 and died November 23, 1934. They came
to the Hosmer area in 1884.
Jacob and Eva are affiliated with the United Church of Christ. Jacob died July
1, 1934. Eva is active in ladies aid and choir and is currently living at the
Lutheran Home.
Jacob and Eva had seven children, Samuel, Leo, Martha, Ramona, Leonora, Milton
and Edwin.
Samuel was born September 17, 1914, and he married Theresa Friedle on August
25, 1940. He died in an elevator accident in Redfield on June 3, 1957. They had
three children, Charlotte, Connie and Patricia.
Leo was born October 10, 1915 and married Viola Schock on October 24, 1943.
They have two children, Dennis and Linda, and reside in Eureka.
Martha was born August 5, 1917 and was married to John Retzer. John died August
25, 1968. They had one son, Lester. She married August Hoffman on July 19, 1975.
Ramona was born November 24, 1919. She married Gustave Neuharth who died
September 25, 1960. They had three children, Patricia, Douglas and Sandra. She
married Ray Olson in 1969.
Leonora was born November 15, 1922 and married Ervin Martel on October 22,
1920. They have two children, Gloria and Bonnie.
Milton was born November 15, 1924 and died November 16, 1924.
Edwin was born April 3, 1929. He married Darvilla Hoffman on June 21, 1953.
They have two children, Kurt and Kenneth.
Eva has seven children, thirteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and
two great-great grandchildren.
