Obituary for Alma Stoebner
Funeral service for Alma Stoebner, 96, of Aberdeen, SD will be 10:00 am, Saturday, April 4, 2015 at the First Reformed Church, Aberdeen, with Pastor David Dawn officiating. Lunch will follow at the Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home fellowship hall. Burial at Eureka City Cemetery, Eureka, SD. Alma died Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at ManorCare Health Services, Aberdeen, SD.
Visitation will be 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm, Friday at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen.
Alma Violet McIntosh, daughter of George “Fred” and Bertha McIntosh, was born on May 7, 1918 in Walworth County, SD. She attended rural grade school and graduated from Bowdle High School. After high school, Alma went to Chillicothe Business College for one year, before attending Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1945.
On July 24, 1950, Alma married Eugene (Blix) Stoebner at the Selby Methodist Church. Together they were blessed with three sons; James, John, and Joseph.
Alma worked for one year at St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen before becoming the Director of Nursing and a surgical nurse at the Eureka Community Hospital, Eureka, SD.
Alma was very active and held board positions in the Eureka Hospital Auxiliary, Eureka Eastern Star, Eureka Senior Center and the Hobby Extension Club. She was also a member of the First Reformed Church in both Eureka and Aberdeen.
Grateful for having shared Alma’s life are her three sons, James (Seung) Stoebner, Plano TX, John (Cindie) Stoebner and Joseph (Laura) Stoebner, both of Aberdeen, SD; grandchildren, Diane (Troy) May, James (Kelly) Stoebner, Jennifer (Carlos) Vargas, Sarah (Duncan) Ferreira, Susan (Justin) Lancaster, Matthew Stoebner, Kayla Stoebner, and Lukas Stoebner; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene; her parents, Fred and Bertha; and her brothers, Dr. George and Clarence McIntosh.
