SOLDIER HERE SHOOTS SELF WEDNESDAYSergeant Singer of Fort Bliss, Texas Kills Himself With Shotgun-----Sgt. Cyrenius Singer of Fort Bliss, Tx., committed suicide at the home of his father-in-law, Charles Kassahn, Wednesday at 10 o'clock in the morning by shooting himself with a sawed-off shotgun belonging to Mr. Kassahn. Sergeant Singer, who formerly was a member of the Fourth Field Artllery stationed at Fort Robinson [Crawford, NE], was spending his furlough in Crawford with his wife, Bertha KassahnSinger and his little son Eugene, 3. He was due to report back at Fort Bliss today, but it is understood that he did not have railroad fare back to that point, and worried on account of that fact as he would have been classed as a deserter had he not reported at the end of his furlough. He had been down town early in the morning trying to borrow money to return to Fort Bliss on, but was unsuccessful andreturned to the Kassahn home shortly before 10 o'lock. After speaking to his wife, he went into the kitchen, took the shotgun down, placed the barrel to his jaw, and fired the shot which caused hisinstant death. The body was taken to the Houston funeral home and military authorities at Fort Bliss and Fort Robinson were notified.-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-Another obituary, also from David Singer, was published in the Crawford Tribune on 14 Aug 1936.SOLDIER KILLS SELF IN THIS CITYDespondency Over Financial Affairs Supposed To Be Cause----On Wednesday morning at about 10:00 o'clock, Sergt.
