JOYCE KATHRYN PAPE PENROD was born on June 26, 1928 in Gonzales County, Texas. She was the only child of Arthur Herbert Pape and Cora Mae Schlick Pape and throughout her childhood she lived on her parent's ranch in Monthalia, Texas. She attended high school in Gonzales, Texas, where she met William Kenneth Penrod. Joyce later attended the University of Texas, but she remained close friends with Billy Penrod and in 1949, the two were married. They lived in College Station, Texas until Billy graduated from Texas A&M, returned to Gonzales to work several years and finally chose Houston for their home. The Penrod's have two children and six grandchildren. Mrs. Penrod departed this world on June 22, 2006. She will be remembered always for her kind heart, her perpetual smile, her love of the game of Bridge and her love of reading. She was a wonderful friend to many people and was involved in church and charity activities throughout her life. A Methodist in her youth, Mrs. Penrod was a member of Second Baptist Church of Houston at the time of her death. She is survived by her husband and her two daughters: Adrienne Unger and Leslie Dunbar. Grandchildren: Arthur Dunbar, Laurence, Lesley, Andrew, Alexander and Lynden Unger. Joyce and those named in the preceding paragraph were greatly loved by one another. Private Internment will take place in Gonzales, Texas.
