Joseph E. Dougherty
Joseph E. Dougherty, 79, of 109 Brandy Driver, Marietta (formerly of Woodsfield, Ohio), died at 7:15 a.m. Friday (May 6, 2005) in the Marietta Memorial Hospital.
He was born near Woodsfield on Jan. 5, 1926, a son of the late Harry and Gertrude Stout Dougherty.
He was a former school bus driver and retired laborer of the former Conalco Corp., Hannibal, Ohio; a member of the St. Sylvester Catholic Church, Woodsfield; and a U.S. Navy veteran serving during World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley Pittman Dougherty, whom he married June 23, 1962; one daughter, Denise Ayers and her husband, Tracey, of Marietta; and two twin grandsons, Logan Joseph Ayers and Braedon Charles Ayers, both of Marietta.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, George Dougherty, and one sister, Martha Brown.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Watters Funeral Home, 37501 state Rout 78 West, Woodsfield, Ohio. Funeral liturgy with mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Sylvester Catholic Church, Woodsfield, with the Rev. David Gaydosik as celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Sylvester Catholic Cemetery, Woodsfield. Vigil services will be held at 8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
