Akron Beacon Journal, Sunday, 6 Sep 2009; pg. B5Charles (Chick) Eugene Begue, 81, died peacefully on Thursday, September 3 at home with his family. He was born January 28, 1928 to Charles A. and Ellen (Frank) Begue and lived his entire life in Randolph and Suffield. Chick loved hunting, fishing and gardening and was known locally for his amazing onions, garlic and tomatoes. He hosted a popular garlic festival for many years. Charles served his country as a member of the U.S. Army in World War II and was stationed in Tokyo, Japan after the war. He retired from H.M. Miller Construction Co. in 1983 and enjoyed a wonderful retirement, surrounded by his children and his grandchildren. Chick was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Kenneth and Donald; sisters, Elaine and Sr. Joanita S.N.D.; and sisters-in-law Agnes and Carol. He is survived by his wife Amanda Inez (Pisanello); brothers Roger, Martin (Margaret), Eugene (Janet); sisters Mary Ann (Albert) Bunch, Kathryn (Richard) Knapp, Bernice (Paul) Lastoski; and sister-in-law Rosalind. He also leaves eight children, Michele (James) Douglas, Lanna (Thomas) Smith, Frederick Begue, Denise (Mark) Midei, Charles (Julie) Begue, Jill (Paul) Wolford, Pamela (Ronald) Crock and Gary (Shelly) Begue; 24 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday 12 Noon at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2643 Waterloo Road, with Father Edward R. Wieczorek celebrating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at Hopkins-Lawver Funeral Home, 34 S. Cleveland Avenue, Monday 5-8 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until service time. The family suggests memorials to his church or to Suffield Fire Department.
