Betts, Charles Franklin Betts

Charles Franklin Betts, son of the late John Wesley and Sarah Shuman Betts, was born November 3, 1878, near Calais, Ohio, and departed this life November 19, 1959, at the Barnesville Hospital.
He was united in marriage with Rosa Elizabeth Crawford on March 13, 1906, and to this union ten children were born.
Four sons and one daughter namely; Woodrow, Clarence, George, Vearl and Sara preceded their father in death. Two brothers, Joseph and Theodore also preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife, Rosa, two sons, Elbert Betts, of Lewisville, Ohio and John Betts, of Fairborn, Ohio; three daughters, Dela Christman, of Barnesville, Ohio; Louise Morris, of Woodsfield, Ohio, and Mary Eva Christman, of Shelby, Ohio; fifteen grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Otha Gray, of Old Washington, Ohio, plus a host of relatives and friends.
He lived his entire life in the community in which he was born. He was a retired farmer but was still very active around his home prior to entering the hospital. On October 7, 1959 he was admitted to the Barnesville Hospital undergoing surgery the following day, and remained a patient until his death.
Funeral services were held at Gardner Funeral Home in Woodsfield, on Sunday afternoon, November 22, 1959, at 1:00 o?clock with Minister J. V. A. Traylor officiating. Interment was in the Calais cemetery.
I can not say and I will not say,
That he is dead. He is just away;
With a cheery smile, and a wave of the hand,
He wandered into an unknown land.
And he left us dreaming how very fair
It needs must be since he lingers there.
Think of him still as the same, I say,
He is not dead. He is just away.
