Frances's Obituary
Frances Hopfauf, 95, Mandan, passed away September 19, 2016 at St. Vincent's Continuing Care Center in Bismarck. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, September 23, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with Rev. Shane Campbell as celebrant. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 22, 2016 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 6:30 p.m. followed by a Catholic Daughters Rosary and a Parish Vigil. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday. Frances was born on September 17, 1921 to Nicholas R. and Perpetua "Bada" (Schmidt) Friesz in Fallon, ND. She was raised and educated in the Fallon area. Frances married Anton "Tony" Hopfauf on November 7, 1939 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Fallon. Tony and Frances farmed in Fallon for the first 5 years of their marriage before moving to Flasher. After brief moves to Hensler and Zap, ND the family moved to Mandan in 1953. Frances worked as a receptionist for several area Doctors, as the doctors retired she would always tell the new doctor coming in, "She went with the office." She was a lifelong member of the St. Joseph Parish, was a Eucharistic Minister at the church and performed outreach for the homebound members of St. Joseph. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters for over 50 years and the American Legion Auxiliary. Above all, her family and her faith were the most important things in her life and she will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Frances will be deeply missed by daughters, Bernadette "Beno" Miller, Bismarck, ND and Janette "Jan" (Tony) Eckel, Maplewood, MN; sons, Ronald (Verdel), Bismarck, ND, Nicholas (Sharon), Allen, TX, Timothy "TJ" (Deb), Mandan, ND and Kevin (Roxann), Mandan, ND; 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Emerita Loeb, Bismarck, ND, Loretta (Harlin) Loeb, Portland, OR, Luella Collins, Molalla, OR; brothers, Roy (Jeanette) Friesz, Jim (Judy) Friesz both of Mandan, ND; sister-in-law, Irene Friez, Mandan, ND and brother-in-law, Art Mildenberger, Bismarck, ND along with numerous nieces and nephews. Frances was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tony who died in 2012; daughter, Maxine McClinn; son, Gerald "Chad" Hopfauf; granddaughter, Roberta McClinn Ankley; great-grandchild, Ian Hopfauf; sons-in-law, Robert McClinn and Bud Miller; sister, Josephine & husband Bill Helbling and Odell Mildenberger; brothers, Ray, Martin and wife Ellen, an infant brother Henry, sister Margaret Friesz and brothers-in-law Ralph Loeb and Lee Collins. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be directed to St. Joseph School Scholarship Fund.
