Floyd Xavier Hopfauf, 71, Mandan, passed away Monday, Feb. 6, 2017, with his family at his side, at Sanford Health, Bismarck, after a courageous 17-year battle with multiple myeloma cancer. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 10, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, rural Mandan with Fr. Cas Paluck officiating. Visitation is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. with a vigil/rosary service at 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 9, at DaWise-Perry Funeral Services, Mandan. Visitation continues one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
Floyd was born April 13, 1945, on the farm at Flasher, to Frank and Ann (Bohl) Hopfauf. He was raised and educated in Flasher, where he graduated from high school in 1963. On October 14, 1967, he married the love of his life, Marcella Schmitz, in Flasher. Floyd drove truck for a living. Over the years he drove for Hoovestol, F.T. Banning, and ELM, until his diagnosis forced him into retirement in 2000. Though he loved his work traveling the Western states, he was known to bend the rules to always get back home as soon as possible. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his kids, and playing a good game of pool. Not one to ever sit still, during his retirement he spent most of his days working in his shop woodworking, helping his kids with their building projects, and was always willing to help his good neighbors, which were many. His quick wit and sense of humor will be missed.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Marcy; two children, Michelle “Shelly” (Jade) Seibel and Russell (Becky) Hopfauf; seven grandchildren, SaCora Hopfauf and friend John, Martin Werner and friend Jessica, Sydney Werner, Shelby Seibel, Emma Hopfauf, Coy Hopfauf, and Royce Hopfauf; two sisters, Loretta Muth and Elaine Berger and friend Virgil Murray; two brothers, Bernie (Trish) and Francis (Donna) Hopfauf; five sisters and brothers-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Danny Hopfauf; in-laws, Clemens and Violet Schmitz; and brothers-in-law, Richard Muth and Dennis Berger.
