OPELOUSAS — Funeral services are scheduled here tomorrow morning for Jesse P. Barnett, Sr., 93, Opelousas businessman and civic worker, who died at 4 p.m. yesterday at his residence.
Services will begin at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Lafond and Son Funeral Home and burial will be in St. Landry Catholic Church Cemetery here.
A native of Elizabethtown, Ky., Barnett came to Opelousas as a young man and established Opelousas Cotton Products, the first large-scale industry here. He was active in the business until he sold it a year ago.
Barnett was senior vice president of the St. Landry Bank and Trust Co., first president of Indian Hills Country Club, an honorary lifetime member of the Opelousas Chamber of Commerce board of directors and an active Boy Scout worker, in addition to other activities.
He is survived by his wife, a son, two daughters, 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
