YAKIMA - Monica (Walter) Brown, 93, went to be with her Lord on December 6, 2004, at Yakima Regional Medical Center. She was born at home in Dunn County, ND, August 1, 1911, to Stephen and Celestine (Urlacher) Walter; the 3rd of 10 children. On October 12, 1936, she married John Brown, who passed away in September 1987. They moved to Yakima in 1947. They always thought that it was the best move that they could have made. They were members of St. Joseph Church for 50 years. Monica took care of her own place until 2000 when her health became such that she was unable to stay alone. She then moved in with her daughter until her death. Her family will always remember her for her home-canned fruits and relishes and her determination to take care of herself and her yard.
Monica is survived by two children: Bertha Schmierer-Dauenhauer and Ted (Peggy) Brown; two grandchildren: Lavon (Gary) Lounsbury and Helen Cochran and fiancé Rick Tucker; four great-grandchildren: Brennon and Brianna Lounsbury and John and Jerry Cochran; two sisters: Magdalene Knopik of Belfield, ND, and Kathryn Heck of Dickinson, ND; and one brother Mike (Berna Jean) Walter of San Diego, CA, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers Joe and George Walter; sisters Eva Hushka and Elizabeth Heiser and two sisters in infancy Rose and Rosemarie; and sons-in-law Marvin Schmierer and Paul Dauenhauer.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Licht and Dr. Ellison for their care, and the nurses on the 5th floor of Yakima Regional Medical Center. Also, a special "thank you" for the kindness shown to our Mother by the Med-Star Drivers. Those wishing can make a contribution to the Yakima Kidney Center or their favorite charity.
Visitation will be Friday, December 10, 2004, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Shaw and Sons Funeral Directors, 201 N. 2nd Street, Yakima, WA. A Funeral Service will be Saturday, December 11, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home, with services concluding at Calvary Cemetery.
