George Henry Miller
Birth: Nov. 9, 1829, Germany
Death: Oct. 22, 1912
Campbell County
Kentucky, USA
OBITUARY: Unknown paper, Alexandria, Kentucky, October 25th, 1912.
George Henry Miller, farmer, near Trace, Campbell County, was born in Schoenau, Germany, October 8th, 1829. His father, Christian Miller, was a native of Alsace, where he was born in 1787. In 1837, he being at the time fifty years old, came with his family to America and located in Brown county, Ohio, where he followed farming until his death in 1845.
The deceased, George Henry Miller, came with his parents to America when he was about eight years of age. He grew to manhood in Brown County, where he received a limited education, which he afterwards improved by general reading and self-culture. Upon reaching his majority, he went to Cincinnati, Ohio, where he remained about two years. Then he came to Campbell County and purchased the farm, in 1852, adjoining the one upon which he lived until his death.
Since moving to Campbell County, he has been closely identified with the development of may of the county's institutions. Although not a politician, he always took great interest in politics and in the various issues between the parties upon which he fully informed himself. The only time he was a candidate was when he was nominated for the representatives to the legislature, but his party being in the minority, he was defeated.
In February, 1856, Mr. Miller was united in marriage to Miss Julia Schwartz, a native of Germany, who still survives him, and to this union there have been born eleven children. Those living are John, Henry, Charles, Elisa, Frederick, and Emma. All the children have grown up to be useful member of society, the training of their parents being such as to inculcate.
Mr. Miller was a man of Strong mind and superior intellect, taking abroad view of life and its affairs. He was possessed of great individuality of character and the moral courage to act and stand for the truth and right, without reserve or fear, upon all occasions and at all times. Kindly of heart, generous, and sympathetic by nature, loyal to his friends and endowed with the highest conception of duty in the relations of life, the deceased, in the exercise of all these qualities, not only endeared himself with those when he came in contact, but won their admiration and esteem. In his death the county has lost one of its best and noblest citizens and his friends have suffered an immeasurable loss in being deprived of the advice and companionship of one so learned, so thoughtful and considerate of others.
We tender his family a our deepest sympathies, in this, their hour of despair. May each of us so live that when we reach the end, it may be said us, like the deceased, "He was a good man among those he lived."
