Irene Grosz
Scotland, SD - Irene Grosz, 96, of Scotland, SD passed away on February 3, 2018 at the Lennox Good Samaritan.
Services will be Saturday, February 10th, at 10:30 am at Zion Lutheran Church in Scotland. Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery in Scotland. Visitation will be on Friday, February 9th from 5:00-7:00 pm with family present at Goglin Funeral Home. There will be a prayer service following visitation.
Irene is survived by her son, Marlin Grosz, of La Jolla, CA; daughter Kaylene (Jerry) Yeazell of Sioux Falls; six grandchildren; 9 great -grandchildren; and 6 great-great grandchildren; sister Erna Stoebner of Yankton; brother Leonard Bertsch of Rapid City.

rene Grosz was born on April 16, 1921 to Fred and Pauline (Bietz) Bertsch in Kaylor, South Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She received her education at Sharon School, a country school close to where she grew up.
Irene was married to Ruben Grosz in 1942 at Kaylor, SD. Born to this union were three children: Verne, Marlin, and Kaylene. She spent a good part of her life on the farm helping her husband. Her husband passed away in October 1973 and soon after Irene moved into Scotland. In 1975, she began to work at the Good Samaritan Center as an Activity Director and was employed there for 21 years. She was active in her church, taught Sunday School for 30 years, served on the Board of Education, and was Sunday School Superintendent for 15 years. She held various offices in her church and was active with the women of the church. Irene also served in the Scotland community as a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary, Good Samaritan Auxiliary, and belonged to the “Germans from Russia Heritage Society”. After retiring she continued to do volunteer work for various organizations. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, cooking, and working on her family’s genealogy and history.
Irene passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society of Lennox, South Dakota and having attained the age of 96 years.
She is survived by her son, Marlin Grosz of La Jolla, CA; daughter Kaylene (Jerry) Yeazell of Sioux Falls; six grandchildren: Dean Grosz of Olivet, Evan Grosz of Rapid City, Jacob Grosz of La Jolla, CA, Matt Grosz of Carlsbad, CA, Jared Yeazell of Fort Collins, CO, and Joey Yeazell of Sioux Falls; nine great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; one sister, Erna Stoebner of Yankton; and one brother, Leonard Bertsch of Rapid City.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ruben and son, Verne.
