Funeral services for Mrs. John G. (Veronica) Fleck, 78, 407 1st Ave NW, Mandan, will be held from St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mandan at 12:30pm Saturday. Interment will be in the Mandan Union Cemetery.
Mrs. Fleck died at 1:20pm Tuesday in a hospital in Mandan. She had been ill for four years. Pallbearers will be her sons: Jacob J, Joe J, George J, John J, and Clemens J, and son in law, Jack M. Schmidt.
She was born in the Ukraine, South Russia, on Aug. 20, 1886, a daughter Jacob and Monica (Dukart) Steckler. She came to the United States with her parents in 1889, where they homesteaded near St. Anthony. Following her marriage to John G. Fleck, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, they lived on a homestead 13 miles south of St. Anthony until their retirement in 1948, when they moved to Mandan. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Rosary Society.
Surviving is her husband in Mandan; five sons: Jacob J., Breien; Joe J., Solen; George J., Mandan; John J., Los Angeles; and Clemens J., Solen; four daughters: Mrs. Jack M. (Katherine) Schmidt, Mandan; Mrs. Orlee (Margaret) Fisher, Solen; Mrs. Ted (Rose) Beckler, Mandan; and Mrs. Jack J. (Cecelia) Schmidt, Mandan; two brothers: Joe Steckler, Valley City and Kasper Steckler, Medina; two sisters: Mrs. Jack (Mary) Bender, Tacoma, and Mrs. Lib (Margaret) Zander, Mandan; 69 grandchildren; four step grandchildren; and 76 great grand children. Two sisters, three brothers, six sons and three daughters preceded her in death.
The parish rosary will be recited at 7:00pm Friday, the rosary society rosary will be recited at 7:30pm Friday, and the St. Maria Verein rosary will be recited at 8:00pm Friday. All will be said from the Hoenig Funeral Home, Mandan, which has charge of arrangements. Friends may call there from 7:00pm Wednesday until time of services.
