Helen Deiser Durham passed away peacefully at her home in the presence of her family and friends on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012.Born in Hunting, Ind., Helen move to Chattanooga at a young age. She retired from JC Penney and was a Red Cross volunteer at Memorial Hospital for 23 years. Helen was a longtime member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church and and an active member of the J. Fred Johnson Jr. Bible Class.She was preceded in death by her mother, Leona Turner; and father, Fred Deiser; grandson, Christopher Connally; siblings, Maurice Deiser and Max Deiser, Patty Keller, Mary Will and Rita Hale.Helen is survived by her three children, C. Jeff (Denise) Durham, Gail (Bud) Connally and Janice (Ralph) Guider; and five grandchildren, Scott Durham, Julie Pratt, Susanne Honeycutt, Andy Guider and Greg Guider; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Mrs. Sue Smith.Helen will be remembered by all who knew her for her selflessness and gentle spirit as well as her enthusiasm for her beloved Atlanta Braves. She especially enjoyed cooking for her family and friends; her love for her family will leave an enduring legacy.The family would also like to thank Helens caregivers, Tarmela Favors, Bonnie Williams and Vicki Bryson, who provided loving care and deep compassion for Helen and her family during her lengthy illness. In addition to her caregivers, the family would also like to express thanks to Hospice of Chattanooga for their care and support.Family and friends will celebrate a life well lived on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 23, 2012 at 4 p.m. in the sanctuary at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday in the church parlor.Zach Pratt, Andy Guider, Greg Guider, Ralph Guider, Bud Connally, Jeff Honeycutt, Allan Pratt and the J. Fred Johnson Jr. Sunday School class will all serve as honorary pallbearers.A private burial will be held Monday, Sept. 24, at Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 1505 N.
