WOODSFIELD ? John Russell Kress, 64, of Woodsfield, died Monday (Oct. 30, 2000) at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pa.
He was born July 31, 1936, in Monroe County, son of the late Bernard O. and Mary (Schumacher) Kress.
Mr. Kress retired from Conalco Corp., Hannibal, and was a member of St. Sylvester Catholic Church, Woodsfield.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of VFW Post 5303, Woodsfield. He was an avid sportsman.
He leaves three sisters, Mrs. Herbert (Kathleen) Wolf of St. Clairsville, Mrs. Harry (Mary Margaret) Wolf of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Mrs. Paul (Joan) Schneider of Woodsfield; two brothers, Joseph (Phyllis) Kress of Allentown, Pa., and Bernard (Evelyn) Kress Jr. of Centerburg; several nieces and nephews and also great-nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield. Vigil services will be 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday at St. Sylvester Catholic Church, Woodsfield, with the Rev. Father David Gaydosik serving as celebrant.
Burial will be in St. Sylvester Catholic Church Cemetery, Woodsfield.
