John Wiederrich, age 88, a life-long resident of Lodi, died in Lodi on November 19, 2011. John was born August 4, 1923, the fourth of five children, born to John R. and Clara (Handel) Wiederrich. He attended Alpine Grammar School and graduated from Lodi Union High School in 1941. He was attending the University of California at Berkeley when called to serve in the United States Navy during World War II, where he served in the Pacific and Japan. After the war, John returned to Lodi where he actively worked the family farms in Lodi, Lockeford, and Acampo as a partner in Wiederrich-Young Farms. He was well-known for his strong work ethic, wit, and sense of humor. As a young man, he was also a good baseball player. In 1997, John met the love of his life, Dorothy Roper, and they were married August 11, 1997. John was a life-long member of Zion Reformed Church.
John is survived by his wife, Dorothy and their daughter, Hannah Wiederrich.
He was preceded in death by his siblings; brothers, Belford Wiederrich and Leslie Wiederrich and sisters, Virginia Young and Viola Klapstein.
Friends are invited to visit Friday, November 25, from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Lodi Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 28, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Reformed Church, 105 S. Ham Lane, Lodi, CA 95242. Committal will be private.
