A farm accident claimed the life of a well-known Britt farmer, Wayne Huling, 59, last Thursday about 9:30 a.m. Dr. John Camp, ass't county medical examiner, investigated the accident at the farm three miles south of Britt. Apparently Huling was repairing a tractor-mounted loader and had his head stuck through supporting brackets. The hydraulic power gave way or released and Huling's neck was caught in the scissor action of the loader, killing him by strangulation.Wayne Cummins Huling was born as one of five sons and two daughters to Byron and Susie Huling at Pontiac, Ill. on Jan. 18, 1905 . He came with his parents and family to Hancock county when a boy and was educated in the Hancock county schools.On March 4, 1952, Wayne Huling was united in marriage to Helen Treganza of Britt. The couple lived in Britt a short time and then moved to their present farm home south of town.Mr. Huling was an active member at the Stilson E.U.B. church. H e had served as Sunday school superintendent for the past 22 yea rs. He also had served faithfully in many of the other church offices. At the present time he was vice-grand officer of the IOOF.He is survived by his wife, Helen; two sisters; Mrs. Virgil (Sadie) Everett of Britt; Mrs. Leo (Ellen) Wilson of Payton; three brothers; Fern, Claude, both of Britt and Floyd of Ft. Dodge. Mr . Huling was prededed in death by his parents and one brother Earl, who was drowned in 1935.Britt News-Tribune Thurs. March 12, 1964.
