Obituary from the Britt News TribuneWednesday August 17, 1927Death came as a relief to the earthly suffering of Willam A. Hoff at two o'clock Thursday morning, August 11th. He had been failing in health for a number of years but his last illness was of only five weeks . This time being confined to his bed. Complication of diseases was the cause of his death.William Abraham Hoff was born in LaSalle County Illinois, on March 31st 1857 to Mr. and Mrs. George Hoff. He was 70 years, 5 months and 11 days old at the time of his death. He came to Hancock County about forty years ago. June 11, 1894 he was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Garthoeffner, the ceremony taking place in Britt. The family lived on different farms in the county and then moved to Britt. He was employed on the section for several years, but for the last four years or more, he was unable to work, only at small jobs now and then.Besides his wife, he leaves to mourn his three children, Mrs. Gladys Iiams of Britt, Earl Hoff of Ventura and George Hoff, of Mason City; three grandchildren, one brother Homer Hoff of Ottawa, Illinois, three sisters, Mrs.Mayme Combs, Merrill, Wisconsin; Mrs. Gertie Huff, Des Moines; Mrs. NellieButts of Sioux Falls, S.D.Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the home at two o'clock and atthe Methodist church at 2:30 with the Rev. J.D. Wolcott in charge. Intermentwas made in the Evergreen cemetery.Mr. Hoff was a jovial and well known citizen, a kind and loving husband andfather. He was a member of the Methodist church.
