Obit: The sudden death of Joseph A. Burkhart of South Gardner St., whichoccurred at his home Thursday afternoon, November 16, was a great shockto his relatives and friends and to the community in general. Mr.Burkhart had not been very well, but no alarm ws give for his conditionand on Wednesday Mrs. Burkhart had been called to Wheeling on account ofthe unexpected death of her brother, Mr. Thomas Kearney. Mr. Burkhartbecame worse tht evening and consulted with a physician but as he did notimprove by Thursday, he called in his sister, Mrs. Harry Flowers, who waswith him when he passed away at 1:45 that afternoon. His wife wasnotified and returned home immediately.
Joseph A. Burkhart was born near Ozark, May 2, 1867, and was a son ofGeorge B. and Magdalena Burkhart. he has been a resident of Barnesvillefor many years and was employed at Watt Car Wheel Company. He was aclever, likeable man and had a number of friends.
Besides his wife, who was Miss Nellie Kearney, he leaves one daughter,Mrs. Marcella Thimnes of Chicago, and a stepson, Mr. John F. Murphy,Washington, DC. He is also survived by four sisters and three brothers:mrs. Anthony Burkhart, Misses Lena and Elizabeth Burkhart, Ozark, Mrs.Harry Flowers, Adolph Burkhart, Barnesville, George C. Burkhart, Ozarkand Theobald Burkhart, Zanesville.
Funeral service was conducted by Rev. Father M.W. Sullivan Monday morningin the Church of the Assumption, of which the deceased was a devoutmember, and burial was made in the Ozark Cemetery, following a shortservice in his mother church nearby.
