Aberdeen - Marie Pauline Schnabel, 95, Aberdeen, died Saturday, October 14, 2006, at the Aberdeen Living Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, at Zion Lutheran Church, 1732 South Main St., Aberdeen, with Rev. Marcia Sylvester officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park. Visitation will be 12 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Miller-Huebl Funeral Home, 1111 South Main St., Aberdeen, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Marie Pauline Gohl was born Sept. 5, 1911, near Leola, S.D., in McPherson County, to Fred and Christina (Hoff) Gohl. This is the area where she grew up and attended school. After school, she worked as a sales clerk at Eureka. On June 23, 1931, Marie married Henry G. Schnabel at Eureka, S.D. They made their first home at Eureka and lived there for 13 years. In 1944, they moved to Aberdeen, where she worked for J.C. Penney for 20 years as a sales clerk. She then worked for Tempo for 11 years until the time of her retirement in 1977. Mr. Schnabel died on March 27, 1965, at Aberdeen. Marie became a resident of the Aberdeen Living Center on April 13, 2006, where she continued to reside until the time of her death. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Aberdeen, the ELCW at Zion, Aberdeen Senior Citizens, Women of the Moose Lodge Chapter #178 and VFW Auxiliary Chapter #17. Marie enjoyed baking and especially liked making homemade noodles. She was very giving and always generous to her family. She was a very good seamstress and enjoyed making items for her family, especially quilts. She did hours and hours of volunteer work over the years at the Bethesda Home of Aberdeen. In 2003, she was named Queen of the Senior Citizens Center in Aberdeen. Her memory lives on with her son, Lester Schnabel of Aberdeen; her daughters, Arlene Decker of Watertown, S.D., and Betty (Ray) Peterson of Davenport, Iowa; one daughter-in-law, Fran Schnabel of Aberdeen; one son-in-law, Harold Ford of Mooreton, N.D.; one sister; one sister-in-law; 12 grandchildren, Joey Decker, Jolene Decker, Sid Schnabel, Deb (Dean) Christianson, Julie (Scott) West, Rick (Kristi) Ford, Randy Ford, Renae (Terry) Duval, Jennifer (Brent) Danielson, Jamie (Nikki) Schnabel, Marc (Kim) Peterson, and Bruce (Joann) Peterson; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Gordon Schnabel; one daughter, Mavis Ford; one granddaughter, Rachelle Ford; four brothers and five sisters. Casket bearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons, Sid Schnabel, Rick Ford, Randy Ford, Jamie Schnabel, Tyler West, and Kyle Christianson.
