Edwin H. Menke Jr., 80, Washington, passed away at his residence Friday, Jan. 12, 2007. Mr. Menke was born June 20, 1926, in Etlah, the son of Edwin H. Menke Sr. and wife Hulda, nee Reinhardt.He graduated from New Haven High School in 1944. After high school, Mr. Menke enlisted in the U.S Navy. He served on the USS Black Hawk, a destroyer tender, which operated in the Pacific Theater during the end of World War II.On April 18, 1948, Mr. Menke was united in marriage to Opal Grace Walthes in Belleville, Ill.He worked as a craftsman and pattern maker for many years. In 1958, he began a career with the Boy Scouts of America serving as a district Scout executive. While serving the Wabash Boy Scout council in Indiana and the Cahokia Mounds council in Illinois, Mr. Menke also managed summer camps.He returned to the wood pattern making trade at Bodine Aluminum, Inc. in St. Louis, where he supervised the pattern making shop.
