The couple did not own any real estate. Their personal possessions were valued at $200. According to the census, John's parents were "of foreign birth."

In 1880, widow Margaret Baker Riesbeck lived on her parents' farm in Malaga Twp., Monroe County, Ohio with her four children, Elenore (9), Agnes (7), Clara (6), and John (4). The girls all attended school.
In 1900, widow Margaret Baker Riesbeck (50) lived a farm that she owned with her unmarried younger brother David Baker (46) with two of her children Mary C. (26) and John S. (24). According to the census, Mary had four children, all of whom were living in 1900. Enumerated as a separate family in the same dwelling was the family of widow Mary Burkhart Haren, three of her adult sons, and her widowed brother Adam Burkhart. Mary Burkhart Haren and her oldest son, Frank, are also listed as owners of the farm. Mary Haren's niece, Isabelle Haren (daughter of Peter Haren) would later marry David Baker. The census states that both of Margaret Baker Riesbeck's parents were born in Germany.
