Bio: The Java Herald, Java, Walworth County, South Dakota, January 25, 1924.Mrs. Magdalena Ackerman, born Kunz, passed away at Herreid, South Dakota, last Monday, January 21, 1924, at the age of 77 years, five months, and 22 days, after an illness of about five weeks.Mrs. Ackerman was born in Rohrbach, South Russia, in 1846. She grew to early womanhood in this village, where she was united in marriage to Jakob Ackerman. In 1886 the family moved to the United States and went to Yankton, South Dakota, the same year. In 1887, they moved to Campbell County, South Dakota, and filed on a homestead north of this city. They resided on the homestead until 1905, when they moved to Java and erected a neat dwelling on Milwaukee Street. They lived there until August 1918, when Mr. Ackerman was called by death. Mrs. Ackerman, then removed to Herreid where she lived with one of her children.About five weeks ago she became very ill, the doctor pronouncing her case incurable. She suffered great pain throughout her illness, but was relieved forever, last Monday, when death called her to the Great Beyond.She leaves to mourn her loss, four children, Henry of Herreid, John of Sutley, Margaretha of Sutley, and Katharina of Mound City; one sister, Mrs. John Harr of Eureka; and one brother, Andreas Kunz near Mound City; 20 grandchildren; and one great grandchild.Funeral services were held at the Reformed Church at Sutley Wednesday afternoon, the Reverend Grossman of Artas officiating. Interment was made in the cemetery beside the body of her husband. May she rest in eternal peace.Mrs. Jakob Ackerman was widely known in this vicinity and was always well thought of and highly respected. She has many friends in Java that will learn with regret of her passing.
